Falcons stun Santa Rosa with late goal

Having already lost to Santa Rosa in September at home, the Falcons shocked the Bear Cubs 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Santa Rosa, thanks to a late goal by Riley Spitzer.  The two teams played a scoreless battle for 88 minutes before freshman Sarah Scott centered a pass that missed Alhan Bakideh's header attempt, but bounced in front of Spitzer before she volleyed it off the post for the game winner.  The two teams have a history of epic clashes dating back three years – including two playoff showdowns – and this one was no different.  The victory was the first for coach Donny Ribaudo on the Santa Rosa turf, and he was happy to get the monkey off his back.  "That was a great bus ride home," noted Ribaudo.  "The girls were just ecstatic to get that win."  Goalkeeper Izzy Chinchay had seven saves to earn the shutout.  With the win, the Falcons improved to 10-3-1 overall and are 8-3 in Big 8 play.  They will play Butte on Wednesday evening in a non-conference match at Falcon Stadium, then host Cosumnes River on Friday afternoon.
