Falcons Fight Hard on Sophomore Night but Fall to Modesto in Four Sets
The Folsom Lake College Falcons faced off against the Modesto Junior College Pirates in a spirited volleyball match on Sophomore Night. Despite a valiant effort, the Falcons fell short, losing 3-1 in a contest marked by dynamic plays and moments of resilience.
The evening began with a special ceremony honoring the Falcons' sophomores, whose contributions to the team have defined their time at Folsom Lake College. With emotions running high, the Falcons entered the match with determination, hoping to end their season on a high note.
The Pirates took control early, winning the first set 25-17 with an efficient offensive effort led by standout player Alize Martinez, who tallied 12 kills and contributed 18.5 points overall. Modesto maintained a strong attack percentage of .241 in the opening frame, setting the tone for the match.
The Falcons rallied in the second set, finding their rhythm to secure a 25-18 victory. Their defensive effort and energy brought the home crowd to life, giving a glimpse of their potential. However, the Pirates adjusted quickly, reclaiming control in a closely contested third set, edging out the Falcons 25-23.
In the fourth and final set, Modesto's consistency proved too much, as they closed out the match with a 25-18 victory.
Falcons' head coach acknowledged the team's grit and resilience, particularly in the second set. "I'm proud of how we battled tonight," the coach said. "Sophomore Night is always special, and while the outcome wasn't what we wanted, this team showed heart."
