Falcons Fall Short Against Panthers Despite Strong Third Set Comeback
Folsom Lake College's Falcons fought valiantly but ultimately fell to Sacramento City College's Panthers 3-1 in a thrilling volleyball matchup on October 18. Despite a late surge in the third set, the Falcons couldn't overcome the Panthers' dominant play, losing 25-19, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22.
Sacramento City took control early, winning the first two sets with identical 25-19 scores. Folsom Lake struggled offensively, hitting negative percentages in the first set (-.098), and struggled to match the Panthers' intensity.
However, the Falcons found their rhythm in the third set, with standout performances from Kimora McKechnie and Jenae Moore. McKechnie delivered 12 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, while Moore contributed 12 kills with a team-high .375 hitting percentage. Their efforts helped Folsom Lake dominate the third set, winning 25-18, and sparking hope for a comeback.
Erin Ayers also made a significant impact, adding 10 kills and two aces, while Kira Comfort anchored the defense with 23 digs. The Falcons hit .268 in the third set, their best of the night, but were unable to maintain the momentum in the fourth set, losing a tightly contested battle 25-22.
Despite the loss, the Falcons showcased resilience, particularly in their ability to bounce back in the third set. With key contributions from McKechnie, Moore, and Ayers, Folsom Lake will look to build on this performance in future matches as they aim to refine their consistency and push for stronger finishes.
