Falcons defeat Shasta, fall to Gavilan

The Falcons had a break from Big 8 play on Friday, but played two matches on Saturday at the Gavilan Tournament in Gilroy.  In the opener, the Falcons defeated Shasta in four sets, 25-22, 22-25, 25-14, 25-14.  In the afternoon match, the Falcons were up against #2 state-ranked Gavilan and lost in four sets, 17-25, 25-11, 19-25, 21-25.  The Rams are currently the highest ranked northern California team with a sparkling record of 16-1, so the outcome was not as unexpected as it was disappointing.  The Falcons must now refocus on Big 8 Conference play with a match at Diablo Valley (3-9, 1-3 in Big 8) on Wednesday and a showdown at American River – one of five Big 8 teams with just one loss – on Friday night.
