Falcons Open Season with Convincing 4-0 Victory over Cabrillo

Folsom, CA — August 26, 2025

The back-to-back 3C2A State Champion Folsom Lake College women's soccer team opened their 2025 campaign in dominant fashion, defeating Cabrillo College 4-0 in front of nearly 300 fans at Falcon Stadium. The Falcons delivered a complete performance, showcasing firepower up front and discipline in the back as they began their quest for a third straight title.

First Half: Setting the Tone
The Falcons pressed early and dictated the tempo, with their midfield controlling possession and steadily breaking down Cabrillo's defensive shape. The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute when Rachael George struck the opener off an assist from Madi Stroh, sending the home crowd into a roar. That early goal set the tone and gave the Falcons confidence heading into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Second Half Surge
After the break, the Falcons wasted no time adding insurance. In the 50th minute, Mia Degrazio slipped through the Cabrillo defense and buried an unassisted goal to double the lead. From there, George took over. The sophomore forward completed her hat trick with two more unassisted finishes in the 59th and 79th minutes, capping off a relentless night in the attacking third.
George's three-goal performance was supported by the playmaking of Skylar Ranesses, who tallied two key assists that kept Cabrillo on their heels. The Falcons' persistence in the attacking half created wave after wave of chances until the Seahawks had no response.

Defensive Wall and Shutout
While the attack provided the highlights, Folsom Lake's back line quietly dominated the match. Lucy Bernino and Kiyomi Tauataina anchored the defense, closing down space and eliminating Cabrillo's opportunities before they could develop. Their work, combined with steady goalkeeping from Bitsy Wagner and Lola Ballard, ensured the Falcons earned the clean sheet. Cabrillo finished the match without a shot on goal, a reflection of the defensive unit's organization and composure.

Coach's Perspective
Head Coach Donny Ribaudo was pleased with how his squad opened the season.
"I was happy with the team's performance tonight. We are seeing gradual growth each game and finding more fluidity executing our system of play. We're also getting closer to game fitness, which will be crucial when we enter Big 8 Conference play.
Looking Ahead
The victory gives Folsom Lake early momentum as they look to extend their championship legacy. The Falcons return to action at home on Friday, August 29 at 6 PM, when they host College of the Sequoias.
With George's scoring touch, Ranesses' creativity, and a back line anchored by Bernino and Tauataina, the Falcons showed in their opener that they remain one of the toughest teams in California to break down.
