Falcons capture Big 8 title with 1-0 win over Delta!

In front of a packed and vocal Falcon Stadium crowd on Friday afternoon, the Folsom Lake and San Joaquin Delta women waged an epic battle for the Big 8 Conference Championship.  The Falcons emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over the Mustangs, a testament to the stingy defense the Falcons have relied upon all season.  The shutout was the 16th of the season for the Falcons; only three opponents in their 19 games have managed to score a goal.  Sophomore forward Avery Pieri scored the only goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 31st minute by virtue of a foul in front of the goal on a corner kick.  Pieri calmly pounded the ball into the right corner of the goal to give the Falcons the 1-0 advantage.

Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Filiau recorded her 7th solo shutout of the season with several key saves, but had plenty of support from defenders Miah Mullany, Makenna Jensen, Kaiden James, and Charlize Garaguay. The shutout was the Falcons' tenth consecutive match without allowing a goal, dating back to October 4 when they last allowed a goal in a 2-1 win over Sierra.

The Falcons now await the official pairings for the playoffs knowing they will have the #1 seed and will play at home throughout the postseason as long as they keep winning.  They'll play on Saturday, November 19 at FLC, time and opponent TBA.
