Falcons top CRC 1-0 to remain undefeated

A long-time nemesis of the FLC women's soccer team posed a serious threat to the Falcons' undefeated 2022 season when the Cosumnes River Hawks visited Falcon Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.  The Hawks and Falcons have had a history of close and exciting matches in both regular season and post-season play, and Tuesday's match was no different.  Although the Falcons seemed to control the ball and dominate possession time throughout the first half, they failed to convert any scoring chances and were locked in a scoreless battle after 45 minutes.  But just minutes into the second half, freshman midfielder Tiayiza Arredondo broke the drought when she scored from the midst of a traffic jam just in front of the goal, assisted by Miah Mullany.

The goal only seemed to increase the intensity for the two teams as the clock wound down.  Both teams had serious scoring chances in the second half with both goalkeepers making exceptional saves.  In the end, it was Falcon goalie Grace Filliau who earned the win and her 4th individual shutout (along with three shared) of the season.

The Falcons (10-0-2 overall, 4-0 in Big 8) remain in a virtual tie for first place in the Big 8 and will play at Sacramento City (10-4, 2-2 in Big 8) - a much improved team - on Friday at 2:00 pm.
