Falcons open season with shutout over Evergreen Valley

The FLC women kicked off their 2022 season on Friday night with a solid 3-0 shutout victory over Evergreen Valley in front of a great crowd at Falcon Stadium.  The teams battled to an evenly-matched scoreless first half, before the Falcons took control in the second half.  Sophomore Annette Medina scored the Falcon's first goal of the season in the 62nd minute with a volley off a corner kick from Klaire Horton Medina's athleticism was evident as the Hawks just had no match for her. Sophomore Mia Solorio-Smith followed up with a long shot from outside the box (assist by Nyah Attaway) in the 80th minute for a 2-0 lead.  Attaway then finished off the match with a long goal of her own just before time expired.  Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Filliau recorded the shutout victory, her 11th as a Falcon.

When asked what stood out from the match, head coach Donny Ribaudo noted the play of sophomore defender Kaitlynn Scoggins, saying, "she was consistent with her defending responsibilities and showed composure while effectively pushing into the attack throughout the entire match!"

The Falcons will escape the valley heat on Tuesday as they play Lake Tahoe at 3:00 pm in South Tahoe.  Their next home match will be on Friday when they host Clovis at 3:30 pm.
