Falcons topple American River

The Falcon women enjoyed a Friday Night Lights experience with a dominant 4-0 victory over the Beavers at American River College on Friday evening.  Falcon freshman forward Mia Solorio Smith scored her first TWO goals of the season – with assists by Taylor Curtis and Gigi Hall - in the first half against the Beavers to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead at the half.  Avery Pieri notched her team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 57th minute for a 3-0 lead, and Gigi Hall put the finishing touches on the win in the 76th minute with her 8th goal of the season.  Grace Filiau and Sydney Rivera split the goalkeeping duties for the Falcons and shared the shutout victory.

The Falcons, currently ranked #4 in California but also possessing the #1 position in Power Points , improved to 11-0-2 overall and 5-0 in Big 8 play.  They remain in a virtual tie for first with both Delta (14-0, 5-0 in Big 8) and Sierra (12-1, 6-0 in Big 8).  The three teams – all ranked in the top 8 in California and top 5 in Power Points - will all play each other over the next 11 days to sort out the seeding for the first-ever Big 8 Tournament playoffs, which begin on November 5.
