Falcons take care of business, advance to Round 2

The #6 seeded Falcons defended the home field and earned a spot in round 2 of the CCCAA state playoffs with a 3-0 win over a determined and dangerous Los Medanos squad on Saturday night at Falcon Stadium.  The Mustangs, seeded #11, came prepared to play and looked capable of pulling off an upset as they controlled possession for a large part of the first half.  Still, the Falcons managed to get on the board in the 25th minute when team scoring leader (and #3 in the state) Michaela Clark sent a hard left-footer past the Mustangs' keeper.  Late in the half, Clark made a move around her defender and sent another left-footer at the goal, only this time teammate Emily Doty redirected the shot with a header into the net for a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Falcons were a better team in the second half and limited the Mustangs' chances with stronger defense.  Midway through the half sophomore Sarah Freed added another goal for the final 3-0 margin.

Since the women's soccer program began in 2013, coach Donny Ribaudo's teams have made the NorCal playoffs every year and are now a combined 10-4 in those postseason matches.  They will travel to Fresno on Tuesday to face #3 seed Fresno City at 2:00 pm.
