Falcons close out Big 8 schedule with win at Delta

The FLC women's soccer team finished their outstanding 2017 regular season with a tough 2-1 win over Delta College on Friday afternoon in Stockton.  The Falcons took an early lead when sophomore Breanna Brumet scored in the 4th minute, assisted by Andrea Martinez.  Freshman Riley Spitzer added to the Falcons' lead with her goal late in the first half (Keionna Claypoole with the assist) to put the Falcons ahead 2-0.  Perhaps feeling a little too comfortable with their 2-goal lead, the Falcons' complacency allowed Delta to get back in the game when the Mustangs scored in the 70th minute, making it 2-1.  From there,  the Falcon defense was forced to step up to preserve the win.  The Falcons finished the regular season at 18-1-2 overall and won their second straight Big 8 championship with a 13-1-2 mark.  The women won't know their playoff opponent until Tuesday afternoon, but should earn home field advantage through at least two of the three NorCal rounds, provided they keep winning.  The first round will be this Saturday, November 18, with subsequent matches on Tuesday, November 21 and Saturday, November 25.
