Spitzer scores ‘Hat Trick’ as Falcons wallop CRC

What was supposed to have been a competitive matchup – FLC defeated CRC 2-0 a month ago – became a blowout on Tuesday afternoon as the FLC women's soccer team turned a close game into a runaway with a 10-0 romp over Cosumnes River at Falcon Stadium.  After Falcon sophomore forward Keionna Claypoole scored the game's first goal just 30 seconds into the match, the two teams went the next 30 minutes without a goal.  At 1-0, it was beginning to look like this would be another close, hard-fought match with the local rival Hawks.  But freshman midfielder Riley Spitzer changed all that as she scored three goals in the next ten minutes, and with an additional goal by Big 8 Conference scoring leader Andrea Martinez, the Falcons took a 5-0 lead into halftime.  The second half featured the Falcon reserves - who proved to be just as dominant as the starters - with goals by Britney Johnson, Breanna Brumet, Kaylin Johnson, Rachel Roberts, and Shayla Merene (who also assisted on two goals).  With the win, the Falcons, currently ranked #1 in the nation, improved to 15-0-1 overall and 10-0-1 in the Big 8 Conference.  Next up, they will host Santa Rosa – the team that tied the Falcons earlier this season - on Friday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
