Women's soccer shuts out CRC

The Folsom Lake and Cosumnes River women's soccer teams have met in the state playoffs every year since 2014 (FLC's second season of soccer) and the matchup has developed into an intense rivalry.  The two teams met on Friday afternoon at CRC to continue that rivalry with the Falcons coming out on top, 2-0.  Falcon sophomore Andrea Martinez – Folsom Telegraph's Athlete of the Week  - reclaimed her spot atop the state scoring leaders as she notched her 15th goal of the season midway through the first half to put the Falcons ahead 1-0.  In the second half, Martinez added an assist to her points total (also tops in the state with 34) as she fed a ball to freshman Riley Spitzer for a 2-0 Falcon lead.  The Falcons dominated the game throughout as they managed 12 shots on goal against the Hawks' one.  FLC sophomore goalkeeper Valerie Ogorodnikov had another outstanding game as she earned her sixth shutout of the season.  This week the Falcons face two tough Big 8 Conference opponents as they travel to Santa Rosa on Tuesday and host 2016 co-champion Diablo Valley on Friday afternoon.
