Folsom Lake Cruises Past Chabot, Secures Third-Round Playoff Spot
The Folsom Lake College women's basketball team continued their dominant postseason run with a commanding 89-46 victory over Chabot College on March 1. With the win, the Falcons secured their place in the third round of the playoffs, setting up a crucial matchup at San Jose City College on March 8 as they eye a trip to the state tournament.
Falcons Soar After Slow Start
Despite a closely contested first quarter, where Folsom Lake held a slim 18-16 lead, the Falcons quickly found their rhythm and never looked back. A dominant second quarter saw them outscore Chabot 22-11, heading into halftime with a comfortable 40-27 advantage.
The second half was a showcase of Folsom Lake's depth and efficiency. The Falcons erupted for 29 points in the third quarter while holding Chabot to just 10, effectively sealing the game before the final period even began. They capped off their performance with a 20-9 fourth quarter, ensuring the lopsided victory.
Balanced Attack Leads the Way
Folsom Lake's offensive prowess was on full display, with multiple players stepping up. Leading the charge was Athena Brombacher, who delivered an all-around performance with 18 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Gianna Darte was lethal from beyond the arc, draining four three-pointers on her way to a 16-point night while also grabbing eight rebounds.
Ursula Chen contributed 13 points, including three makes from deep, while Jasmine Clee provided a spark off the bench with 12 points and nine rebounds. The Falcons dominated the boards, out-rebounding Chabot 59-47, which helped them control the tempo throughout the game.
Lockdown Defense Fuels Folsom's Success
While their offense was impressive, Folsom Lake's defense was equally crucial in securing the win. The Falcons held Chabot to just 46 total points, including a mere 19 points in the second half. Their defensive rotations stifled Chabot's shooting efficiency and forced critical turnovers that led to easy transition baskets.
Looking Ahead to Round Three
With the win, Folsom Lake moves one step closer to their ultimate goal: a State Championship. Their next challenge will be a third-round playoff battle at San Jose City College on March 8. With their momentum surging and a deep, balanced roster, the Falcons are poised to make a serious run in the postseason.
If they can maintain their high-level play, Folsom Lake College will be a tough opponent for any team standing in their way. Fans can expect an intense showdown as the Falcons continue their quest for a spot in the state tournament.
