Falcons Show Fight in Conference Championship Battle Against San Joaquin Delta

The Folsom Lake Falcons left it all on the court in the 2025 Conference Championship Game, but despite a spirited effort, they fell to San Joaquin Delta, 79-61, on Friday night. The Falcons put up a strong fight, particularly in the second quarter, but ultimately couldn't overcome the Mustangs' balanced attack.

Falcons Battle Back in Second Quarter

Folsom Lake had a tough start, struggling to find their rhythm in the opening period as San Joaquin Delta jumped out to a commanding 20-7 lead. However, the Falcons roared back in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 28-20 to cut the deficit before halftime.

Athena Brombacher was a force inside, leading all scorers with 21 points while adding seven rebounds and shooting an impressive 11-for-12 from the free-throw line. Ursula Chen provided a major spark off the bench, hitting four three-pointers on her way to 14 points, while Gianna Darte contributed with eight points and two assists. The Falcons moved the ball well, recording 14 assists as a team, with Lexi Peters leading the way with five.

Championship Pressure and Turnovers Prove Costly

Coming out of the locker room, the Falcons looked to build on their momentum, but San Joaquin Delta's defense tightened, making it difficult for Folsom Lake to sustain their offensive rhythm. The Falcons managed just nine points in the third quarter, allowing the Mustangs to pull away. Turnovers were a major factor, as Folsom Lake committed 17 giveaways, leading to easy transition points for San Joaquin Delta.

Despite the final score, the Falcons showed tremendous heart and resilience throughout the championship game. Their ability to bounce back after a tough first quarter demonstrated the team's fight, and their 75% free-throw shooting proved their composure under pressure.

A Season to Build On

While the Falcons came up short in the conference title game, their grit, determination, and second-quarter comeback showed why they earned their spot in the championship. With young talent stepping up and a team that never quits, the future remains bright for Folsom Lake basketball.

This season showcased the Falcons' growth and potential, and with this experience under their belt, they'll be even more determined when they return to the court next year—hungry for another shot at the title.
