Falcons Soar Past Wolverines in High-Intensity Rivalry Game

In a high-octane rivalry showdown, the Folsom Lake College Falcons delivered a statement victory over the Sierra College Wolverines, securing an 87-65 win on January 9 in front of an electric home crowd.

From the opening tip, the Falcons set the tone with their fast-paced offense and relentless defense, leaving the Wolverines struggling to keep up. The Falcons built an early 20-12 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, outscoring Sierra in every quarter while shooting an efficient 50% from the field.

Sophomore guard Lexi Peters led the charge for Folsom Lake, putting on a clinic at the free-throw line with 13-of-15 shooting, finishing with a team-high 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. Athena Brombacher showcased her versatility with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while Khalilah Corley added 12 points, providing crucial buckets in transition.

The Falcons' depth was also on display, with contributions from reserve players like Kelis Powell, who tallied 8 points and 5 rebounds, and Leilani Edinburgh, who chipped in 8 points and 4 assists. Their collective effort helped Folsom Lake control the tempo and maintain a commanding lead throughout the game.

On the other side, Sierra College struggled to find their rhythm despite a gritty performance from Katie Leeth, who scored a game-high 16 points while grabbing 5 rebounds. Sarah Reuter was a force in the paint, recording a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, but the Wolverines' offense faltered under Folsom Lake's defensive pressure, shooting just 31.7% from the field.

Folsom Lake's defensive intensity was highlighted by 10 steals, including 3 from Peters, while holding Sierra to just 23.8% shooting from beyond the arc. The Wolverines' turnovers (13) also proved costly, as the Falcons capitalized with fast-break opportunities and controlled the boards with a 33-28 rebounding edge.

"This was a true team win," said Falcons Head Coach Ali Mollet. "We knew coming into this game that Sierra would bring everything they had, but our players executed the game plan beautifully. I'm proud of the energy, focus, and fight we showed from start to finish."

For the Wolverines, it was a hard-fought battle despite the lopsided scoreline. Juliana Chavez contributed 9 points and 7 assists, but Sierra's struggles at the free-throw line (20-of-39) and limited three-point shooting hampered their ability to close the gap.

The Falcons remain in strong contention in conference play, with their next game scheduled for January 11 at Diablo Valley College.

With this resounding victory, Folsom Lake College solidifies its position as a top contender while sending a clear message to their rivals: the Falcons are a force to be reckoned with this season.
