Falcon women come up just short against Butte
The Folsom Lake women's basketball team suffered yet another close loss on Thursday night when they fell to Butte, 63-58, in Oroville. The game was close throughout, with many ebbs and flows for both teams. The first quarter ended with a buzzer-beater 3-pointer that stretched the Roadrunners' lead to five, but the Falcons didn't despair. They kept fightiing and went into halftime down 31-25. The third quarter was not kind to either team and was the lowest-scoring quarter of the season at 7-5. Down by 8 points, the Falcons turned up the tempo in the fouth quarter while also utilizing a press and made a close game of it while outscoring Butte, 28-25, only to lose by five points. Amani Britton had her finest game as a Falcon scoring 11 points. In her first game back from a toe injury, Annie Malekos also scored 11 points. Bella Rainwater continued to shine in the key, scoring 10 points.
The Falcons' record of 2-8 is deceptive; they've almost exclusively played against top-20 teams and been close in nearly every loss. They'll host Yuba (3-6) on Saturday at 5:30 pm and Solano next Thursday before opening Big 8 Conference play at CRC on Dec 22.
