Fighting Spirit: Folsom Lake Shows Grit in Tough Road Test Against Modesto

Despite falling 8–1 to Modesto on April 3, Folsom Lake showed flashes of resilience and determination that highlight the team's heart and potential as they continue through conference play.

Catcher Annika Scheafer played a strong game behind the plate and at bat, going 1-for-3 with a double and scoring the team's lone run in the third inning. Freshman pitcher Marianna Prieto helped her own cause with an RBI grounder that brought Scheafer home, showing hustle and heads-up baserunning to reach second on the play.

Mia Griffith also contributed with a sharply-hit double to right field, demonstrating her ability to make solid contact and keep pressure on opposing pitchers.

In the circle, Prieto and reliever Haylee Garrison battled through a deep Modesto lineup, with Garrison settling in nicely to allow just two hits and one earned run over her three innings of relief. Her composure and control helped limit further damage and gave the Falcons a chance to regroup defensively.

While the scoreboard didn't tip in their favor, Folsom Lake's refusal to fold—against one of the top teams in the conference—speaks volumes about the team's toughness and commitment. With young talent like Prieto and steady leadership from Scheafer, the Falcons are continuing to grow and gel as a unit.

As the season rolls on, performances like this show that Folsom Lake is laying the foundation for something special. The effort is there—and when it all clicks, this team will be one to watch.
