Folsom Lake Falcons Fall to Butte in Season Opener

The Folsom Lake Falcons fought hard in their season opener but ultimately fell 7-2 to the Butte Roadrunners on Thursday. Despite keeping the game close early on, the Falcons were unable to overcome a late-game surge from Butte.

Folsom Lake showed resilience in the second inning, tying the game 2-2 after capitalizing on a Butte defensive error and a stolen base. Sophia Nielsen played a key role for the Falcons, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Kenna Jenkins also contributed, reaching base and stealing a base in the second inning.

The Falcons' pitching staff worked to keep Butte's offense in check, with starter Marianna Prieto allowing two runs over three innings. However, reliever Melia Ritchie struggled in the sixth, giving up four runs in less than an inning, allowing the Roadrunners to pull away.

Defensively, the Falcons made some key plays but were hurt by two errors that contributed to Butte's scoring opportunities. Catcher Annika Scheafer showcased her skills behind the plate with a stolen base and solid defensive work.

Despite the loss, Folsom Lake showed promise in their season opener. They will look to make adjustments and bounce back in their next matchup as they seek their first win of the season.
