Softball comes up short over break

The only action for the Falcons was on Tuesday when they hosted Los Medanos for a doubleheader, but the home team came up short in both games, losing 10-2 (in 5 innings) and 9-6.  In the opener, the Falcons were victims of their own poor defense as they committed five errors which led to seven unearned runs for the Mustangs.  The second game saw the Falcons pound out 14 hits, including five doubles and a home run, but they could not overcome a five-run third inning by the Mustangs.  Anna Ydiarte pitched four shutout innings in relief, but the damage was done at that point.  Breanna Martinez  smashed her BVC-leading fifth home run of the season while Hailee Gall and Gabi Segura each collected three hits and Bell Gomez had two hits while driving in two runs in the loss.

The Falcons are currently in fourth place in the Bay Valley Conference at 4-4.  They will travel to Fairfield on Tuesday to take on BVC leader Solano College (5-1) in an afternoon doubleheader, then return home on Thursday for a pair against Yuba (3-5).
