Inaugural Falcon Softball Team Ready to Take Flight

With 14 anxious women eager to get the season underway, the Folsom Lake College softball team will make their debut this week when they host Merced College in a doubleheader on Thursday.  Head Coach Amanda Sager is excited to finally be playing games, noting,  "We've been practicing since September, so we're happy to finally get to play."  The team is made up of mostly freshmen with the exception of third baseman Breanna Martinez and left fielder/pitcher Hailie Gall.  Both players have already been offered full scholarships to Mayville State in North Dakota, an NAIA member.  Freshman Anna Ydiarte (Rio Linda HS) will be the team's starting pitcher, with Gall being used in relief.

The Falcons will play 15 non-conference games through February before beginning their Bay Valley Conference schedule on March 10.  Sager predicts that Solano and Napa Valley Colleges will be at or near the top of the BVC standings.   "Our primary goal is to compete hard every time we take the field," replied Sager when asked about the team's goals.  "When we step between the lines, we will play hard.  If that leads to a spot in the playoffs, well, that's awesome."

The Falcons will play mostly doubleheaders, with typical game times being at 1:00 and 3:00 pm.  As with baseball and soccer, General Admission to softball games is $5, Senior Citizens and non-FLC students are $3, and FLC students, faculty, and staff are all admitted free (as are children 12 & under).  Come on out to cheer on FLC's newest athletic team!
