Men’s Tennis edged by Foothill in NorCal semi-finals

The underdog FLC men's tennis team took on perennial tennis powerhouse Foothill College in Los Altos Hills on Tuesday afternoon in the northern California regional semi-finals and nearly pulled off a stunning upset.  Two of the three  doubles matches came down to the final game and had a huge impact on the final outcome.  As it turned out, Foothill got the upper hand with 9-7 and 8-6 victories at # 2 and #3 doubles that proved to be insurmountable.  Staked to a 3-0 lead after doubles, the Owls needed just two more wins (out of the 6 singles matches) to earn the victory.  Ironically, when they got those wins at #2 and #4 singles, FLC was leading or tied in three of the remaining matches.  With the overall outcome decided, the remaining matches were halted and are not included in the final score.

The Falcons finish as the #4 team in northern California and with the most wins ever at 11-4.  The only losses this season were to American River and Foothill, who will play for the northern California championship on Saturday.  The Falcons will now focus on the individual singles and doubles competition at the state tournament in Ojai next week.
