Falcons top Beavers to claim third place in Big 8

The Folsom Lake and American River men's soccer teams met Friday evening at FLC in their final regular-season match of the season with third place in the Big 8 standings on the line.  When the teams met on October 14 at ARC, the result was a 2-2 tie.  This time the Falcons used a strong second half to erase a 1-0 deficit, resulting in a 2-1 Falcon victory.

The Beavers struck first with a goal in the 34th minute and held that lead into the second half until Falcon freshman midfielder Drew Swenson tied the score with a goal in the 60th minute, assisted by Curtis Vang.  The energized Falcons continued to pressure the the Beavers and eventually got the winning goal in the 82nd minute from sophomore Alejandro Flores with another assist by Curtis Vang.  The victory earned the Falcons a third place finish and a winning record in Big 8 Conference play at 4-3-3.

The Falcons must now await the official pairings for the playoffs, which will be announced on Monday, before knowing their opponent and location of Wednesday's (Nov 16) first round match.
