The Folsom Lake Falcons and Merced Blue Devils waged an epic battle on Friday evening at FLC with the visitors coming away with a hard-fought 1-0 victory. Both coaches admitted afterwards that the match was as close and intense as any they'd played this season. The only goal of the game occured midway through the second half when Merced's Daniel Borges got loose on a breakaway and beat Falcon goalkeeper Alonso Ruiz. Down by a goal, the Falcons went into desperation mode and had several scoring chances over the final 15 minutes but could not convert the tying goal.
The Falcons (4-6-4 overall, 1-1-3 in Big 8) are off on Tuesday and will start their second trip through the Big 8 schedule on Friday when they play at Delta (2-11-1 overall, 0-5 in Big 8) at 4:00 pm. The Falcons will need some key wins in their final. five games over the next 2-1/2 weeks to have a shot at making the CCCAA playoffs.
