Men's Soccer Earns Victory

The Falcons took an early lead against Shasta with a goal by freshman Marco Aguilar (assisted by Nate Benesch) in the third minute of play.  The Knights answered back to tie the score 15 minutes later off a free kick near the 18 that was just off the fingertips of Falcon goalie Patrick McDade, but that would prove to be their last celebration.  Falcon sophomore Sam Garcia gave FLC a 2-1 lead with a goal in 28th minute, assisted by Nico Lionakis The narrow lead was challenged several times by the Knights, but the Falcon defense, led by sophomore Jamie Sprague, stood strong.  Still clinging to a 2-1 lead at the 58 minute mark, sophomore Eduardo Campos took a pass from Aguilar and blasted a long goal from outside the goal box.  Freshman Lee Barclay rounded out the scoring for the Falcons in the 78th minute off a pass down the left side from Richard James, making it 4-1.

"Jamie (Sprague) and Ian Callendar played really well," noted head coach Justin Johnson.  "Plus, our forwards did a great job of breaking down their back line and creating scoring opportunities."

The Falcon win improved their early season record to 2-4.  Their next three games are on the road, beginning tomorrow when they travel to Stockton to play Delta College (at U.O.P.) at 4:00 pm.
