Falcons Lose Home Opener, 1-0

A crowd estimated at over 200 turned out to watch the inaugural FLC men's soccer team play their first home game last night against Delta College, but the home team fans came away disappointed as the Falcons were on the wrong end of a 1-0 score.

While the Delta Mustangs controlled the ball and the tempo through most of the first half, the Falcon defense, led by goalkeeper Patrick McDade, managed to thwart every scoring chance.  In the second half, the Falcons unveiled a more aggressive style of play that led to several scoring chances, including a goal negated by an offside call, but were never able to capitalize.

McDade continued to impress as he was peppered with strong shots but never allowed any into the goal.  Deep into the second half the score remained locked at 0-0 until Delta managed to find the net with just 12 minutes to play.  FLC coach Martin Roberts was visibly despondent afterward, saying, "We had our chances.  If one of those had gone in for us it could have completely shifted the momentum to our side."

The men will go after their first win of the young season this Friday when they travel to Gilroy to take on Gavilan College at 4 pm.
