Falcons Soar with Back-to-Back Wins Over Sequoias
The Folsom Lake College Falcons continued to showcase their dominance on the field, securing two consecutive victories over College of the Sequoias on March 6 and 7. With stellar pitching performances and timely hitting, the Falcons improved their record to 12-6, proving they are a force to be reckoned with this season.
Game 1: Falcons Take Control Early
In the first matchup, Folsom Lake set the tone right away with a two-run first inning. Asa Martinez drove in the opening run with a single, followed by a clutch RBI double from Quincy Malbrough. While Sequoias managed to respond with a solo home run from Jonathan Ortega in the second, the Falcons' pitching staff held strong for the remainder of the game.
Starting pitcher Keisen Hayden (6-1) was in command, allowing just two hits over six innings while striking out eight. The bullpen duo of Andy Uharriet and Jarren Ekkelboom shut the door, combining for three innings of no-hit baseball to secure the 4-1 victory.
Offensively, Folsom Lake collected nine hits, with Malbrough playing a key role, scoring a run and recording a triple and a double. The Falcons also capitalized on defensive miscues from Sequoias, padding their lead in the sixth inning to seal the win.
Game 2: Kenney's Gem Leads Falcons to Sweep
The second game was a pitching masterpiece from Noah Kenney, who dominated from start to finish. The right-hander delivered a complete-game, one-hit performance, striking out nine batters while walking just one. Kenney's efficient 91-pitch outing was a testament to his control and resilience on the mound.
Despite Sequoias striking first with an early home run from Alex Lopez in the opening inning, Folsom Lake quickly responded. The Falcons took the lead in the third when Michael Ryan doubled in a run, followed by a sacrifice fly from Malbrough. Dylan Green extended the lead in the fourth, driving in two runs with a single to make it 4-1.
The offense continued to shine, racking up 12 hits in the game. Adam Reyes led the charge, going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while Green and Connor Barth each added multiple hits. The Falcons' disciplined approach at the plate and aggressive baserunning allowed them to control the tempo and keep Sequoias on their heels.
Falcons Riding High
With these two victories, the Falcons have demonstrated their ability to excel in all facets of the game. Their pitching depth has been impressive, with Hayden and Kenney both delivering outstanding performances. Meanwhile, the offense continues to step up in key moments, utilizing extra-base hits and smart situational hitting to manufacture runs.
Looking ahead, Folsom Lake will aim to keep their momentum going as they prepare for their next challenge. If their recent performances are any indication, the Falcons are primed for a strong push as the season progresses.
For now, the Falcons can take pride in their latest success, proving once again that they are a team built to compete at the highest level.
