Folsom Lake Battles Hard in Narrow Loss to Shasta
The Folsom Lake College baseball team put up a strong fight against Shasta College on February 18, 2025, but ultimately fell 4-3 in a tightly contested matchup in Redding, CA. Despite out-hitting their opponents 9-8 and putting up an early lead, the Falcons came up just short in the final inning.
Folsom Lake started off hot, scoring two runs in the first inning off a clutch single by Connor Barth that brought in Asa Martinez and Quincy Malbrough. Shasta responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, keeping the game within reach.
Pitching remained strong on both sides, with Folsom Lake's staff holding Shasta to just one earned run through 8.2 innings. Nolan Lawrie, Andrew Balentine, and Axel Holtz combined for four solid innings before Andy Uharriet and Jarren Ekkelboom closed out the game. Uharriet took the hard-luck loss despite striking out five and allowing just one earned run over 3.2 innings.
The Falcons tied the game in the seventh when Martinez delivered a timely double to bring in Trajan Rogowski. However, Shasta managed to push across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth with a single from Baron Delameter, sealing the 4-3 victory.
Folsom Lake saw strong performances from Rogowski, who collected two hits and scored a run, and Martinez, who drove in a key RBI with his extra-base hit. Defensively, the Falcons turned a double play and limited errors to just one, keeping the game competitive.
Despite the loss, the Falcons showed resilience and will look to bounce back in their next game as they continue their early-season campaign. With promising performances from their lineup and solid pitching depth, Folsom Lake is poised for a strong season ahead.
