Falcons Soar in Opening Game of Spring Season with Dominant Victory Over Rams
The Folsom Lake Falcons opened their spring season in spectacular fashion, showcasing offensive firepower and pitching precision in a commanding 12-2 victory over the Gavilan Rams on Friday. The Falcons combined solid hitting, sharp defense, and stellar pitching to set the tone for their 2025 campaign.
Falcons Dominate from the Start
The Falcons wasted no time making their mark, with the offense igniting in the second inning. Adam Reyes capitalized on an error by Gavilan's second baseman to bring in the first run, setting the stage for what would be an offensive showcase. By the third inning, Logan Pruski's two-run double widened the lead, and Folsom Lake never looked back.
The fourth inning was a turning point, as the Falcons exploded for four runs. Trajan Rogowski's RBI double and Michael Ryan's two-run homer highlighted the inning, putting the Rams in a 7-0 hole. Ryan, who finished with two hits and three RBIs, praised the team's focus: "We came out aggressive and executed our game plan perfectly."
Martinez's Milestone Performance
Catcher Asa Martinez delivered a career-best performance, driving in five runs, including a towering grand slam in the seventh inning that sealed the Falcons' victory. Martinez finished 3-for-5 and was instrumental in guiding the pitching staff through a dominant outing.
"Our pitchers were phenomenal, and it felt great to contribute offensively," Martinez said. "This was a complete team effort."
Pitching Shuts the Door
Folsom Lake's pitching staff combined to hold Gavilan to just one hit over nine innings. Starter Keisen Hayden set the tone with 4.1 innings of no-hit ball, striking out five. Nick Haas and Ryder Slatten provided strong relief, ensuring the Rams never found their rhythm at the plate.
The Rams managed to scratch across two runs, one in the sixth on a groundout by Devin Aragon and another in the seventh after a wild pitch, but they struggled against the relentless Falcons' arms.
Looking Ahead
With a resounding opening-day win, the Falcons sent a clear message to the rest of the league. Head Coach Rich Gregory praised the team's preparation and execution: "We've been working hard all offseason, and it's great to see everything come together. This is just the beginning."
Folsom Lake will look to carry their momentum into their next matchup, confident in their ability to perform on both sides of the ball.
While the Rams showed resilience late in the game, it was the Falcons' day to shine. As the spring season kicks off, Folsom Lake's dominant debut sets the stage for what could be an exciting campaign.
