Baseball suffers second straight one-run loss

For the second straight day, the Folsom Lake and Diablo Valley baseball teams played a game that was decided in the final at bat.  On Wednesday afternoon it was a two-out, bases-loaded single that scored the winning run for the Vikings in the bottom of the ninth for a come-from-behind 9-8 DVC victory in Pleasant Hill.  The Falcons never trailed in the game until the final run scored; they put up five in the first inning and had a 7-4 lead in the fourth inning.  The Vikings made it 7-7 in the bottom of the sixth, and it stayed tied until the ninth inning when Falcon right fielder Aidan Malm put the Falcons ahead with a two-out home run to left field.  But in the bottom of the ninth, the Vikings combined two hits with two walks off Falcon closer Josh Winkler to set up the two-out, game-winning single up the middle.  The loss was the second straight to open Big 8 Conference play for the Falcons, who must now find a dry day to play the third game of the series against the Vikings.
