Falcons let one slip away, lose to ARC

The FLC baseball team, searching for quality starting pitching,  let one slip away to American River on Tuesday afternoon.   Leading 3-1 entering the ninth inning at Falcon Field, the Falcons couldn't close it out as the Beavers strung together three singles and a triple to go up 4-3, then added five more runs (four unearned) to win going away, 9-3.  The Falcons wasted a brilliant pitching outing by starter Grant Dragmire, who went six innings allowing just one run on five hits.  Reliever Austin Beard was equally effective, throwing two perfect innings.  But closer Shane Gustafson wasn't his usual self; in his last seven appearances, he'd pitched 10+ innings while allowing just three runs on nine hits.  On Tuesday he allowed four straight hits without retiring a batter.

The Falcons will play at American River on Thursday, then host the Beavers on Saturday afternoon at Falcon Field.
