Baseball Makes Comeback But Loses In The 9th

Hoping to gain some ground in the Bay Valley Conference standings, the Falcons took on BVC co-leader College of Marin yesterday in Kentfield, having already split two early-season games with the Mariners.  The game was scoreless for 4 ½ innings until the Mariners pushed across two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.  Down 4-0, the Falcons rallied for three runs in the eighth, highlighted by a bases loaded walk to Blake Rivera and a two-run single by Mychal Lee.  In the ninth, Austin Wailes singled home Grant Heisinger as the Falcons tied the game at 4.  But in the bottom half of the ninth, the Mariners got back-to-back one-out singles, then won the game when a Falcons' wild pitch allowed the runner on third to score.  "Just a tough way to lose," commented FLC Coach Rich Gregory. "To work our way back into the game, then give it away.  That one hurts."
