Women's Volleyball Ready For Inaugural Season

FLC's newest intercollegiate team is under the direction of longtime FLC Kinesiology professor Matt Torrez.  Coach Torrez previously coached men's volleyball at American River College, as well as working with the girls' varsity and JV teams at El Camino High School.  With fourteen players from throughout the Sacramento and foothill region, the squad has spent the summer months getting to know each other and learning to play together, including climbing Mt. Tallac (south Tahoe) in early August.  According to Falcon players, the team really began to  bond during their 10+ mile hike.  "It seems like we came together as a team after that day," noted Rylyn Campbell (Golden Sierra HS), referring to the 3500 vertical foot adventure.  Outside hitter Kylie Haverson (El Dorado HS, Placerville) has caught the attention of her teammates with her outstanding play.  Coach Torrez also noted the leadership roles that several players have assumed, including defensive specialist Alexis Mauck, outsider hitter Kate Nicknig, middle hitter Analyse Stapleton, setter Samantha Hegseth, and middle hitter Emma Flewell.  Folsom Lake College will host a 4-team tournament in the FLC Gynasium next Wednesday, August 30.  The Falcons will play San Jose City College at 1:00 pm while Lassen takes on Ohlone College in simulataneous action.   At 3:00 pm, the F alcons will play Lassen while Ohlone plays San Jose.
