Falcons overcome wind and Bear Cubs to win 3-1

On a windy Tuesday afternoon, the FLC women's soccer team withstood a strong effort by visiting Santa Rosa to record their eighth win of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Bear Cubs to remain undefeated in Big 8 Conference play.  With a 25 mph wind blowing out of the northwest, the Falcons were working against the wind in the first half of play.  Still, sophomore forward Taylor Curtis got loose near midfield on a breakaway and beat the Bear Cub goalie for the game's first score in the 15th minute.  Less than 10 minutes later, the Bear Cubs responded with a goal of their own to tie the score at 1-1, where it remained until well into the second half.  Now with the wind at their backs, the Falcons built an attack that culminated with a pass from Jasmine Alvarez that found Gigi Hall in front of the Bear Cub goal, and she made good on her shot for a 2-1 lead.  The Bear Cubs continued their pressure, forcing Falcon goalie Grace Filiau to make several key saves.  When Falcon freshman Maggie Munoz added an insurance goal in the 80th minute (assisted by Avery Pieri) for a 3-1 lead, the outcome was all but assured.

The Falcons, now 8-0-2 overall and 2-0 in Big 8 Conference play, will travel to Cosumnes River (0-7-2 overall, 1-2 in Big 8) for a 4:00 pm kickoff on Friday afternoon.
