Falcons earn a tie at Santa Rosa

Folsom Lake and Santa Rosa met three times in 2016, with very little separating the two teams.  A total of three goals  were scored in those three matches with Santa Rosa winning 1-0 in Santa Rosa, a 1-1 tie occurring at FLC, and a double overtime 0-0 tie (which FLC eventually won on Penalty Kicks) in the 3rd round of the state playoffs.  So naturally, yesterday's showdown in Santa Rosa continued the trend, with the teams playing to another 1-1 tie.  Despite the Falcons' advantage in time of possession, the Bear Cubs scored the first goal 35 minutes into the first half.  As the match wore on, it began to look as though that one goal might stand up.  But in the 88th minute, Falcon sophomore Tiara Webb sent a cross to sophomore forward Breanna Brumet, who put it into the net for the tying goal.  "Being able to get points on the road, especially at one of our biggest competitors, is big for us," noted Falcon head coach Donny Ribaudo.  "It's never easy in Santa Rosa. They have a quality program, and we feel like our preparation paid off today."  The Falcons (8-0-1 overall, 3-0-1 in Big 8) will now prepare for Friday's home match against 2016 Big 8 co-champions Diablo Valley (5-2-2 overall, 1-2-2 in Big 8).   The teams will meet at 4:00 pm as part of a home soccer doubleheader (the men play Cosumnes River at 6:30 pm)
