Falcons nearly topple Sierra

Falcons nearly topple Sierra

Game two saw a different Falcon team take the field.  After allowing the Wolverines a run in the top half of the first, the Falcons retaliated with three of their own in the bottom half.  A single by Brieana Maddux scored Abbie Strickland all the way from first base for the first run.   A single by catcher Gaby Fruciano put runners on the corners, then Mac Robertson's triple to the fence in right-center scored both to put the Falcons ahead 3-1.  After Sierra closed it to 3-2 in the third inning, second baseman Kelsey Liddell blasted a double off the right field fence to score Strickland and make it 4-2.  Meanwhile, FLC starter McKenna Rickles was pitching a gem as she held Sierra to just two runs through the first five innings.  In the sixth, the Wolverines scored two to tie the game at 4.   Yet again, the Falcons responded with a run of their own when Makalah Alexander led off with a double, then scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-4.  The Falcons were entering the seventh inning with a one run lead over the #5 team in California!  The tide quickly changed when a walk, an error, and a single put the Wolverines ahead 6-5.  A bunt single, a sacrifice bunt, and then a double produced two more runs that spelled doom for the Falcons as they eventually lost 10-5.  Still, it was the best six inning of softball the FLC team has played this season and proved they could play with anyone.  Their next home game will be Tuesday at 3:00 pm when they face Delta College.
