Falcons, Blue Devils battle to 2-2 draw

A Friday afternoon non-conference battle between two teams ranked in the top six in all of California lived up to the pre-game hype as #5 Folsom Lake and #6 Merced fought to a 2-2 tie in Merced.  The Falcons drew first blood when Arjan Chahal scored an unassisted goal midway through the first half, and the score remained at 1-0 through halftime.  A Blue Devils' goal in the 65th minute knotted the score at 1-1, but sophomore forward Zwannah Johnson answered right back with a Falcon goal less than five minutes later.  Merced was not ready to quit yet, though, and eventually tied the score at 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining.  With both teams working hard to score the game-winner, neither could find success and the match ended in a draw.

The Falcons (10-1-4 overall, 4-1 in Big 8) have a bye on Tuesday and are facing a postponement of their Friday home match vs Modesto (5-7-1, 0-4-1 in Big 8) due to COVID-19 protocols.  An announcement regarding the re-scheduling of Friday's match will be made as soon as a makeup day and time are determined.
