Men’s soccer impressive in home opener
The FLC men's soccer team made a strong first impression for the home crowd at Falcon Stadium in Tuesday night's 2017 home opener as they defeated Yuba College, 4-0. Sophomore midfielder Santiago Peniche scored the game's first goal in the 8th minute of play off a beautiful assist from Luis Aguilar. Just eight minutes later, freshman defender Erik Mattice launched a 40-yard missile that sailed over the Yuba goalie's hands into the top corner of the net for a 2-0 lead. The Falcons added yet another goal in the 24th minute when Yuba was called for a 'hand ball' in the box, resulting in a Falcon Penalty Kick. Sophomore Marco Aguilar calmly drove the PK past the keeper for a 3-0 Falcon lead. The Falcons added one more goal in the second half, this one by sophomore Austin Moen, to complete the scoring. The victory improves the Falcons' record to 3-1-1 with two matches to go before Big 8 Conference play begins September 22.
