Men's Soccer Tastes Victory!

The three-hour drive from Redding to Folsom can be rather long and monotonous, but it probably wasn't long enough for the FLC men's soccer team last night as they celebrated their first victory in program history, a 1-0 win over Shasta College.

This time, the Falcons found a way to score early when goalkeeper Patrick McDade made a save in the 3rd minute of play, then sent a long kick downfield where forward Tyler Scott controlled it beyond the defenders and chipped it over the onrushing Shasta goalie into the net.  With the early goal, the Falcons could focus on their defense, which was led by center defender Richard James (RJ).  "RJ had a great game," commented coach Martin Roberts. "He was like a wall that they could not get around."  Meanwhile, McDade did the rest, recording his first shutout win as a Falcon.  "It was definitely a much more enjoyable ride home.  That win really lifted the weight off our shoulders," noted Roberts.

The Falcons now turn their attention to Friday's 4:00 pm match at Feather River College in Quincy against a team that made last year's state playoffs.
