Baseball Team Defeats Contra Costa, Closes in on Postseason Berth

Playing their first home game in almost three weeks, the Falcons took an early lead last Friday against Contra Costa and never looked back during their 6-1 win.  With starter Will Felton limiting the Comets to just five hits over his six innings of work, the Falcons never seemed in danger of losing.  First baseman Nick Schumacher provided the early punch with a two-run single in the first inning, scoring Grant Heisinger and Tyler Kaim.  Heisinger scored again in the third when Austin Wailes singled him home for a 3-0 lead.  The Falcons scored single runs in fourth, sixth, and seventh innings to put the game out of reach.  Andrew Schantz relieved Felton in the seventh and pitched three shutout innings to earn the save.  The Falcons improved to 13-8  in the BVC (21-12 overall) and are third in the conference - one game ahead of Napa Valley - with three games to play. A third-place finish would almost guarantee the Falcons a spot in the CCCAA state playoffs, which would likely begin on May 1-2.
