Falcons defeat Beavers, 2-1, to remain undefeated
With two early first-half goals, the FLC women's soccer team seized control of their match at American River College on Friday night and went on to defeat the Beavers, 2-1. Freshman Riley Spitzer put the Falcons ahead in the 8th minute with an unassisted goal, and scoring machine Andrea Martinez netted her 13th goal of the season (in just 7 matches) in the 23rd minute to increase the lead to 2-0. The Beavers would not go down without a fight, and responded with a goal of their own – just the second allowed by FLC in 7 games – 13 minutes into the second half that closed the gap to 2-1. But that would be all the scoring as the Falcons hung on to win and improve their Big 8-leading record to 2-0 (7-0 overall).
With a well-deserved bye on Tuesday, the Falcons will prepare for a ferocious stretch of schedule as they'll face Cosumnes River, Santa Rosa, Diablo Valley, and Sierra in the next two weeks.
