Second-half stumble leads to three point loss for Falcon women

Despite a strong start and a 12-point first-half advantage, the Folsom Lake women's basketball team couldn't finish the job on Tuesday night as they fell to Modesto at Falcon Gym, 63-60.  The third quarter turned the tide in the Pirates' favor thanks to numerous turnovers and missed shots, with the visitors outscoring the Falcons 29-14 to take a three point lead into the final quarter.  The Falcons had several chances to tie the game in the final two minutes, but couldn't buy a basket when it counted most.  To their credit, the Pirates repeatedly came up with offensive rebounds late in the game that helped seal the victory.

The Falcons relied on a balanced attack that led to many first-half layups.  Sophomore Delaney Keddie got her first start since missing several games due to injury and responded with a team-leading 11 points.  Freshman forward Megan Williams had 10 points while Jasmine Hess, Amani Brittonand Reya Lee all chipped in nine points apiece.  Point guard Macie Purbaugh dished out 9 assists and added five points.

The Falcons (5-9 overall, 1-1 in Big 8) will face the state's #1 ranked team on Thursday night when they play at Delta College (16-0, in 2-0 Big 8) at 5:30 pm.
