Softball wins one of two against Diablo Valley

A Saturday home doubleheader against the Big 8's eighth-place team looked like a recipe for a sweep, but the Diablo Valley Vikings had other ideas. After a four-hour rain delay, the Falcons took game one, 7-4.  But in the nightcap, the Vikings' lefty pitcher silenced the Falcons' bats as the Vikings won 2-1.

In the opener, the Falcons rapped out 13 hits to score runs in the first, third, and fifth innings.  Olivia Dominguez led the onslaught with three hits, including a double and two runs scored.  Hannah Dominguez had two hits and two RBI, and Lilly Alzarez had four RBi.  Adriana Gonzalez came on in relief of Alvarez in the third inning and shut out the Vikings the rest of the way.

The Vikings jumped in front in game two with a two-out rally in the first inning that scored a run.  They added to that in the fifth inning with another two-out run, this time on a passed ball.  Meanwhile, the Falcons could do little against Viking lefty Jaleah Hardy, who somehow avoided hard contact all evening.  The Falcons finally rallied in the seventh with the help of a two-out Viking error, but it was a case of too little, too late.
