Hawks sweep two at FLC

The FLC softball team has been riding high in 2020, but last week left them questioning.  After Tuesday's loss at ARC, they were looking to right the ship with a doubleheader against Cosumnes River on Friday.  Instead, the Hawks turned the tables on those plans with a come-from-behind 6-5 win in the opener, then dominated the late game 10-5.  The loss in the opener was particularly painful, as the Falcons were cruising along with a 3-0 lead when the Hawks put six runs on the board in the fourth inning, capitalizing on five singles and three walks.  The Falcons made it close with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but could not get the equalizer.  Catcher Emma Gaytan hit her first home run of the season in the third inning, then blasted another in the fifth.  Unfortunately for the Falcons, both came with no runners on base.  In the seventh, Gaytan led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, then went to third on a passed ball.  But she would be left stranded there when the game ended on a line drive by Val Garcia that was caught in right field.

In game 2, the Falcons put runs on the board in both the first and second inning and took a 5-1 lead into the third.  But the Hawks answered back with three in the third and four more in the fourth inning, while the Falcons were shut out the rest of the game.  The Falcons fell to 15-4 overall, but more importantly are 2-3 in Big 8 play.  They'll hope to halt the skid on Tuesday when they host Modesto (4-7 overall, 0-3 in Big 8) at 3:00 pm.
