Santa Rosa tops Falcons, 2-0
If the FLC men's soccer team had any hopes of a Big 8 title in 2022, Tuesday's home match against Santa Rosa was a must-win game. Unfortunately, those hopes were dashed late in the second half of play when the Bear Cubs broke a scoreless tie with two goals in a ten minute span that clinched a Santa Rosa 2-0 victory. Up to that point, the two teams had played an incredibly evenly-matched and hard fought game with neither side able to score or even claim dominance. But in the 69th minute, the Bear Cubs broke through for their first goal, then followed that 8 minutes later with a goal off a corner kick that broke the Falcons' spirit. The final 10 minutes was a formality as the Bear Cub defense held strong.
The Falcons (6-8-4 overall, 3-3-3 in Big 8) now find themselves tied for third place in the Big 8 with one match remaining. That match is against American River (4-9-8 overall, 2-1-6 in Big 8), who happens to be the other team tied for 3rd place. They will play on Friday evening at Falcon Stadium at 6:00 pm.
