Falcon men salvage tie against Modesto

The Folsom Lake men's soccer team gave up an emabarrassing goal in the first 20 seconds of play against Modesto on Friday afternoon, but scored late in the first half to salvage a tie in a match they clearly hoped to win.  Neither team looked interested in settling for a tie as the intensity picked as the game wore on, but both defenses held their ground and prevented any further scoring.

The Pirates apparently caught the Falcons off guard immediately after kickoff, sending a high looping shot over Falcon goalkeeper Connor Edwards, who was positioned out near the top of the Penalty Area. Once past Edwards, the ball bounced twice as it slowly rolled into the goal.  It was an excruciating start for the Falcons, but they eventually scored the equalizer on Armando Jimenez' penalty kick in the 38th minute.

The Falcons (3-5-1 overall, 1-1-1 in Big 8) will travel to Santa Rosa (5-2-2 overall, 1-0-1 in Big 8) on Tuesday, then play at American River (3-5-3, 1-1-) on Friday night.
