Down 2 goals, Falcons' comeback results in crazy 5-4 win at Delta

The Folsom Lake men's soccer team, having lost three of their last four matches - with a tie mixed in - found themselves facing another loss midway through the second half at Delta on Tuesday as they fell behind 3-1.  But something ignited the Falcons and they put four goals in the net over the final 15 minutes of play to steal a 5-4 win.  The Falcons had been dominant through the first half and took a 1-0 lead on Ryan Brannigan's goal in the 25th minute.  But the Mustangs tied the score late in the half, then took that momentum into the second half when they added two more goals in the first 15 minutes.  Things looked bleak for the Falcons, but sophomore Freddie Allen gave them hope with a goal in the 76th minute.  Freshman Fernando Atilano then tied the game four minutes later and suddenly it was a new game.  The Mustangs wasted little time in answering back and re-took the lead with a goal three minutes later.  Now in desperation mode, the Falcons responded with a goal by Kyle Reilly to tie the score with just five minutes to play.  Freddie Allen then found the game-winner in the 87th minute as the Falcons won, 5-4.

"I told the boys 'it's now or never'," noted head coach Justin Johnson.  "Somehow, they responded.  That was a much-needed result."

Besides Freddie Allen, sophomore Armando Jimenez was another hero with two assists, including one on Allen's game-winner.

The Falcons (3-5-1 overall, 1-1 in Big 8) will host Modesto (5-3-2, 0-2 in Big 8) on Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
