Falcon men earn tie with Butte

The FLC men's soccer team turned in one of their better performances of the 2022 season on Wednesday afternoon, but ultimately could only manage a 1-1 tie at Butte College.  The game, originally scheduled for September 9 but postponed due smoky air and high temperatures, was played at Butte.  The Roadrunners, featuring a roster of international players, had some very talented individuals but lacked the team cohesiveness that the Falcons displayed on Wednesday.  A first-half goal gave Butte a 1-0 lead thanks to some nifty footwork and individual effort.  But the Falcons didn't despair and continued to strive for the equalizer.  Finally in the 69th minute, Nathan Gosal slotted a pass to forward Kyle Reilly, who blasted a screamer into the top corner of the net to tie the score at 1-1.  The Falcons continued to create scoring chances but much to coach Justin Johnson's regret, couldn't capitalize with a game winner.

"We just left too many opportunities on the table," noted Johnson.  "I really liked our intensity and teamwork today, but we just left too many chances unfinished."

The Falcons (now 2-4-1) will open their Big 8 Conference schedule on Friday afternoon when they host Cosumnes River at 3:00 pm.
