DVC topples Falcon men; Big 8 race coming down to the wire

Locked in a virtual tie for the Big 8 lead with just a week to play, the Folsom Lake men needed a win over Diablo Valley on Thursday night to keep pace with co-leaders Santa Rosa and Delta.  But the Vikings had other ideas. as they turned the tables on the Falcons with a 78-69 victory at Falcon Gym.  The Vikings flipped the script from two weeks ago (when the Falcons won the first meeting, 90-86) as they pulled away in the final minutes to secure the win.

The Falcons were ice-cold to start the game and only found success when they worked the ball inside to big man Dane Johnson, who finished with a team-high 24 points (on 11-of-13 shooting) and 15 rebounds.  The Falcons made just 3 of 21 three-pointers (14%) and shot just 25% from antwhere outside the key for easily their worst shooting night of the season.   Despite the shooting woes, the Falcons were still only down by a point with ten minutes to play.  But three straight 3-pointers put the Vikings up by eight and never looked back.

The. Falcons (8-4 in Big 8) will have a busy final week with home games against American River (7-4) on Saturday, Cosumnes River (3-7) on Monday, and Sierra (5-6) on Tuesday before finishing out the season at Delta (11-3) on Thursday.
