Santa Rosa's late run dooms Falcons
The Falcons had to deal with back-to-back games with a short bench when they played at Santa Rosa on Saturday evening. The top two teams in the Big 8 battled through a close first half with the Bear Cubs taking a two-point lead into the locker room, 34-32. When Kainoa Fidel's three-pointer put the Falcons ahead 52-51 with 10 minutes to play, it was the ninth lead change of the game. But from there, the Falcons hit a wall as the Bear Cubs reeled off 18 unanswered points over the next five minutes to go ahead 69-52 with just over five minutes remaining to essentially put the game away. Running on fumes, the Falcons could get no closer than 12 points, losing 74-62.
The loss drops the Falcons 1/2 game behind Delta and Santa Rosa in the Big 8 standings at 8-3. They'll host Diablo Valley (4-5) on Thursday night at 5:30pm.
